CREATE CHANGE – Children Make Possible the World of Tomorrow
What happens when kids are given the opportunity to express their desires concerning the city of the future? What ideas come forward when kids—instead of professional city planners, architects or politicians—are allowed to dream up future-oriented models for urban environments? What does the commercial city of the future look like in the imagination of children?
CREATE CHANGE sent twenty-four, ten- and eleven-year-old children from the Berlin district of Gropiusstadt on an exploratory trip though the city. They visited commercial areas and came up with ideas for what our city of tomorrow and the commerce of the future should look like.
Together the kids prepared a “Book of Desires”. They presented their ideas to an interdisciplinary team of fifteen experts from retail, architecture, design, strategy, city planning and psychology. The CREATE CHANGE team of experts addressed the expectations of the children and made recommendations for realizing their dreams.
CREATE CHANGE is a project of the Berlin creative network CREATE BERLIN in collaboration with dan pearlman. CREATE CHANGE “THE COMMERCIAL CITY” was commissioned by and made possible through the support of mfi management für immobilien AG.
CREATE BERLIN presents the project CREATE CHANGE as one of 20 Berlin projects at the interdisciplinary design show WE CREATE BERLIN from August, 9 to September, 15, 2013 at Volkswagen Automobil Forum, Unter den Linden 21, 10117 Berlin. The exhibition is open daily 10 am to 8 pm. Free entry.
